Watermelon Birthday Card

So today I felt inspired to create a birthday card for my Mom's upcoming birthday and a few bookmarks that remain unfinished for my brother. I usually stick to cards with cutout flowers that I design, however, today I felt a bit inspired by fruit and the colors of pink and lime green so I went for a watermelon theme. First I cut the pink paper to 4x6 then I cut the really cute polka dot paper to look like ribbon to go across the top and bottom of the card. I like mixing patterns and designs, it just gives it that much more depth. Then I used a fun tool that creates amazing circles, cut it in half and did it again with pink creating a watermelon slice design. The envelope is a bit more tricky--you've got to measure it just right and create just the right angles or it looks sloppy. My trick is to use patterned paper that doesn't show all of the errors. The handwriting on the front I don't worry about, I have fun with it...but the inside is a whole other story---I like to keep that as neat as possible. As for the green flower, that will turn into a bookmark. I will place a magnet on the inside and a picture in the middle on each side framing each of the girls faces. More to come soon! --Meggie A.

The Art of Creation

I find that I am inspired sometimes by some of the most odd things. It could be an outfit that someone is wearing, a picture in a magazine, the beauty of the day, my husband, or sometimes my zany nieces and nephews. A lot of times I find that my day requires me to find an outlet that a visit to a gym just can't cure. So I sit with my exacto knife, my paint and brushes, and I let my creativity flow. Lately, however I find that pulling out my Great-Grandfathers easel and painting box is just too much of a hassle living in a small downtown apartment like so many young professionals--so I make cards, wrapping paper decorations, and designs that can easily be framed and hung in a home to add a bit of flair to the decor...things that can be made on my living room ottoman or floor.

I hope that seeing my creations will inspire you to be creative in your own ways. Keep checking in as I post my creations!
